As of next year, hundreds of babies could be born with 3 parents and free of potentially deadly and life threatening genetic diseases. Britain Fertility regulator is saying that this controversial technique of creating embryos with 3 types of DNA "does not appear to be unsafe" after conclusion received from several lap tests. This has the potential of being a very significant medical breakthrough.

The technique is being created for parents who have a genetically fatal disease and being able to prevent it from passing on to the child. The egg would be genetically modified before being transferred to the mother. So far, this has not been tested on human and only in a controlled lab. The U.K health department are hopeful that this legislation will be able to pass by the end of the year. Should this be approved, Britain would be the very first country in the world to genetically modify embryos.

This could also mean that same sex couple could be able to both pass their genetics to one child and no longer have to pick and choose. Of course there are many opinions on this subject, good and bad, but it still is amazing what science can do today.
