For years, '90 Day Fiancé' has been a continuous smash hit for TLC, and for good reason. The premise of the show is fairly straightforward: viewers get an inside look into the sometimes tumultuous K-1 visa process (by law, a foreigner must marry his or her U.S. citizen partner within 90 days of entry, or be deported) and the people whose lives are forever changed. To date, it has hooked millions of viewers, who become invested in the reality show stars' stories and outcomes - both the good, and the bad.
Season one stars Russ and Paola are just one of the many couples who became fan favourites early on. They were married in October of 2013, and have remained in the spotlight long after season 1 ended when they appeared in the spinoff series 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After? They're not always well-received, however. Russ has been accused of being overbearing, and Paola has been seen as the more selfish of the pair. Despite all of that, they remain very much in love - and in the limelight - especially in the wake of their pregnancy announcement this past summer.
Now, Paola is slamming 'mommy-shamers' in her latest Instagram post, which features a lengthy caption and a short video of her posing in front of the mirror.
She begins by commenting on the many changes her body is going through as her pregnancy progresses, confessing that "everything is growing so much and it is not only my belly". She continues on, admitting that she has really enjoyed being pregnant, and even though she thought it would be hard to undergo all these changes, she now just feels blessed.
"Of course I've gained weight," she writes. "But to be honest that doesn't bother me at all because at the end [of the day] I know how to get back to the way I was . . . the most important [thing] is that my little angel is growing strong and healthy."
This isn't the couple's first pregnancy. Tragically, Paola suffered a miscarriage earlier this year. It was at that time she discovered that her blood type (O-negative) puts her at a higher risk for miscarriage. When the couple conceived again a short time later, they were nervous, according to Russ.
"We were very reserved at the beginning, and when we first found out, we were weary of getting our hopes up, because we didn’t want a repeat to happen,” he said.
But now, several months into her pregnancy and the news that they are expecting a baby boy out in the open, Paola, in particular, has found a voice - especially when it comes to getting ahead of the 'mommy shamers'.
"I'm not worried what my kid’s friends will say about me when they see my photos or videos," she says. "I’m not changing just because I’m pregnant or becoming a mom, I was proud before of who I am and what I’ve done so there’s nothing to be ashamed of."
