10 Parenting Tips That Reese Witherspoon Follows

Actress Reese Witherspoon has an awesome career. But more importantly, she has been rocking the most important role of her life for a long time now: being a mom. The Big Little Lies star has three children, and their names are Ava, Deacon, and Tennessee.

Witherspoon appears to be one of the most fun and down-to-earth moms in Hollywood. When she was discussing what it’s like to have a new baby, she said she felt as though her brain was scrambled eggs.

The actress also thinks having prepared meals in the freezer is a great idea since no new mom wants to cook. Witherspoon also has some other useful parenting tips.

10 She Goes Back To Her Roots

The actress comes from the southern part of the United States, and her southern roots really start to show when she is disciplining her kids. Witherspoon claimed that she gives her children a “sit-to” when they are in trouble.

That basically just means that they have to sit down and listen to their mother. But if things get a little more serious, she also gives them a “what-for,” which is on a whole different level. According to Witherspoon, that’s something no one should want to get involved in. Even though her daughter was not born in the south, she seems to be taking after her mom since she does the same thing.

9 Yelling Is Totally Okay

Witherspoon thinks that if a parent does not yell at their children, something is not right. Of course, that is an exaggeration, but sometimes moms and dads have to go there.

The actress said that if parents aren’t yelling at their children, they are not spending as much time with them as they should. She also feels as though she is always going around the house telling her kids to clean something up.

Apparently, the actress also frequently catches herself having to tell her kids to put their clothes in the laundry and clean the dishes. She also advises that no one call her before 8:15 in the morning, since she is busy getting everyone ready for the day before then.

8 Reese Believes Parents Should Be Honest

Witherspoon does not want to give her children any false hopes about what life or the world outside their family is like. The mother believes that being honest with them is the best thing to do.

When Witherspoon’s daughter was upset that she did not perform very well during a basketball game, her mother presented her with the possibility that she might not be cut out for that kind of sport, and Witherspoon told Ava that she was not very good at basketball either.

Her daughter thought she was being rather mean. But in Witherspoon’s opinion, she was just being honest.

7 Never Forget That Kids Listen

These days, the actress tries to remember that her children do listen to her, even though it sometimes seems as though they do not. That was proven to her by her oldest child when she repeated some health advice she had heard her mother talking about once before.

Apparently, Ava recalled Witherspoon saying something about how drinking water with lemon in it is good for the body. This was a particularly surprising moment to Witherspoon, who had a rather emotional reaction to the whole thing since she did not think her daughter listened to her. Witherspoon referred to this moment as a “parenting triumph.”

6 Remember That No One Is Perfect

Witherspoon admitted that even she is not a perfect mother. It’s hard to balance being a parent with having a career, as well as trying to keep up with everything else in life, and Witherspoon doesn’t seem to feel any differently.

But the actress also knows that it is pointless for other moms and dads to compare themselves to their peers. Witherspoon said that no one is a perfect mom or dad, despite what others might think. She also said all parents are just loving their children with their entire hearts, and they are doing the best that they can do.

5 Being Goofy Is The Way To Go

Witherspoon loves to communicate with her children through social media apps like Snapchat. The actress has a very goofy personality, and it definitely shows in her parenting.

There are lots of times when she sends her children some humorous messages. Witherspoon claimed that there have been times when she has sent them messages of herself doing funny voices, or wearing things like false teeth.

Having a mom like Witherspoon has to be pretty fun at times. While she is strict once in a while, the actress definitely likes to be silly and make her kids laugh as much as she can.

4 There’s Nothing Wrong With Grossing The Kids Out

For Witherspoon, part of being silly with her children involves her grossing them out as well as making them laugh. On occasion, the actress likes to send her oldest son, Deacon, pictures of animals that she knows he will think are gross, and she also puts some humorous captions with them.

The actress said when she send those images, she will caption them something like “I’m feeling like this today,” followed up by something else that usually adds to the humor. Witherspoon loves her children unconditionally, but there is no denying that she really enjoys grossing them out as well.

3 Reese Shows Her Kids That Hollywood Is Not All There Is

While lots of children wish to be movie stars when they grow up, Witherspoon has been busy showing her children that there are lots of other things to aspire to be. She claimed that teenagers only have a knowledge that is limited to what they have experienced up until that point.

They typically do not know what it is like to travel to another country, so she wants her children to know that one can have a great career outside of the bright lights of Hollywood. She has tried to surround herself and her children with people who work in all kinds of different fields.

2 People Should Prepare For Their Whole World To Change When They Have Kids

When people ask Witherspoon when she thinks the best time to have a baby is, she often responds by advising them to pick the day they want their entire life to become different. The actress believes that, as awesome as it is to be a parent, raising children can turn a person’s whole world upside down.

According to Witherspoon, there is simply no good time for that to happen. The actress gave birth to her oldest child when she was in her early 20s, and she was overwhelmed, to say the least. But motherhood appears to have treated Witherspoon pretty well.

1 Co-Parenting Is A Big Deal

Co-parenting isn’t easy for two people who are no longer married, but Witherspoon and her ex-husband, actor Ryan Phillipe, seem to have it all figured it these days. They trust one another, and they both know how important it is for children to have both of their parents, so they have managed to make it work even though they are divorced.

It was hard for them in the beginning, but they have reached a comfortable spot with it now. Witherspoon has claimed that they are both on the same page as far as parenting goes, and she also said that Phillipe is a very involved father.
