One of the biggest worries that parents-to-be have when choosing a name for their child is that they will regret it later in life. A name can sound so perfect in a moment, but then change in the next. Perhaps you learn the name has a less-than-appealing meaning. Maybe someone else you know also chose this baby name or a friend or family member admitted they don’t like the choice. You may have noticed the same sounds like something else or are worried your child could be teased because of it. Or, perhaps you simply outgrew the name.

Whatever the reason, we can all agree that no one wants to regret their child’s name. The Sun recently published an article in which parents came forward to admit why they regret their baby’s names, and the results may surprise you. 22-year old mom Cassie Legge said she named her son Archie weeks before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle chose the same name for their firstborn. In fact, she says they came up with the name Archie after her partner’s childhood pet cat, but people still question if they got their inspiration from royalty.

38-year old mother-of-three Biba Tanya says she named her daughter Hannah after her mother-in-law, but she was never wholly onboard with the decision. In the end, she admits she changed her daughter’s name to Lola, which was definitely awkward to explain. “Three weeks later, I legally changed it to Lola but it took some explaining as I'd originally named her after my mother-in-law!” she confessed. “People will probably think I’m crazy and I should have done it before her naming ceremony but Hannah just didn't suit her.

Finally, Hayley Garbutt, now 52, says she let her mother choose her daughter’s name. Hayley said she had her firstborn at age 18, and her mother way overstepped her bounds in order to try and help her parent at a young age, including telling hospital staff what the baby’s name was. “A nurse came along with the tags and asked what her name was,” she explained. “That’s when I got (I realise now) the shock of my life because mum announced my little girl’s name was going to be ‘Zola.’”

Hayley continued, “I assumed I’d be able to change it before we registered her birth as I still wanted to call my little girl Holly but mum wasn’t having any of it. Mum kept telling me it was a film star’s name and Zola would be destined for big things.” To this day, Hayley says she never changed her daughter’s name.
