Parents who decided to dress their kids as President Donald Trump for Halloween are receiving a lot of criticism. No matter what your political views are, the situation has got people questioning whether or not it’s okay to dress children as politicians for Halloween. With such strong opinions from both sides, it can be hard to decide what to do as a parent.

Those who are dragging parents who chose to dress their kids up as Trump argue that it’s wrong to do so. People who feel very strongly about their political views could see the costume as a form of propaganda, and their passionate opinions can put the kid in danger. Especially with such a polarizing figure like Trump, critics of political figure costumes believe it’s in poor taste to choose the outfit over many other harmless options.

They also argue that kids should be able to choose their own costumes and let their imaginations run wild. Instead of imposing a debate-inciting costume on a child, parents should guide their kids on choosing what to be for Halloween. Kids usually don’t understand the nuances of political opinions, so it shouldn’t  be the main focus of their costumes. Critics argue that even if the kid wants to be Trump for Halloween, it’s up to their parents to teach them that it’s in poor taste to choose to do so.

Many are also defending the Trump costume decision. Unless the kids are trick-or-treating in an area that would endanger them because of political implications, there’s really no harm in dressing-up as a politician for Halloween. It’s just a costume, nothing more. The kids aren’t perpetuating a pro- or anti-Trump propaganda, especially since they’re not old enough to know what this exactly means. They’re just dressed up as a popular figure for Halloween.

As more photos surface of kids in a Trump costume, opinions will remain divided. It’s up to the parents to decide whether or not what they’re doing is good for their children. Ultimately, the main thing kids care about during the spooky season is candy, watching some Halloween films, and getting to dress-up. As long as their trick-or-treating routes are safe, they couldn’t care less what the political implications of their costumes are.
