Khaleesi is actually quite a popular baby name in the US. A decision some parents might be regretting right about now.
Game Of Thrones has become a worldwide phenomenon since it debuted back in 2010. Nine years later and here we are, less than a week away from the show's final ever episode. As with anything as popular as GoT, the names of many of its characters have naturally become pretty popular. Arya is currently the 119th most popular name in the US whereas in 2010, it barely broke the top 1000.
Another popular GoT girls name is technically not a name at all, Khaleesi. For the uninitiated, Khaleesi is a title as opposed to a name. The title means queen, and it is held by Daenerys Targaryen. This is the point where we need to warn readers that there are spoilers ahead in relation to the latest episode of GoT.
For those who have seen this week's episode, we are, of course, talking about Dany going rogue. Despite the surrender of King's Landing in what we are now assuming has been incorrectly referred to as The Last War, Daenerys proceeded to ride Drogon around the city, burning thousands of innocent civilians to a crisp. Dany becoming The Mad Queen prompted Buzzfeed to contact parents of children they named Khaleesi.
The aim was naturally to discover whether they now regret naming their daughters after someone who has turned out to be quite the tyrant. The answer? Not really. Nikki Sotto, a mom to one of many baby Khalessis, was not phased by the plot twist at all. Nikki and her husband explained that they picked the name due to its meaning and that hasn't changed.
Perhaps most shockingly of all, most of the Khalessi parents quizzed claimed that they didn't take much issue with what Dany did. Some defended her by saying she was simply going after what she wants, while others even claimed they would have done the same had they been pushed to the brink like she was. Either way, we can't imagine the name Khaleesi will remain as popular as it has been following recent GoT events.
