Congratulations are in order for ‘American Idol’ winner Phillip Phillips and his wife Hanah for the birth of their baby boy! Patch Shepherd Phillips was born on Nov 9. Phillips shared a sweet picture of the little guy to Instagram a few days after his birth.
Phillips lovingly wrote about his boy, “I am forever in love with this little kid. He has changed me so much already. We can’t take our eyes off of him. He’s perfect.” The picture shows Patch cozily lying down next to a couple of stuffed animals. The newborn stage is full of love, snuggles, and exhaustion. It seems that Phillips is soaking up all he can while his son is still new.
Phillips also praised his wife of five years for her amazing accomplishment of having their son. This pregnancy was not the easiest for her because she received weekly iron transfusions through an IV while completing graduate school. Though the pregnancy had its challenges, she was not shy to compliment her husband's support on Instagram either.
On a post for their anniversary, she wrote, “If I’ve realized anything married to this man, especially these last 9 months, it’s that his love is unconditional.” This couple, now family of three, couldn’t get any cuter!
It can be assumed that Hanah received the iron transfusions due to an iron deficiency. Around 15-25% of pregnant women experience iron deficiency or anemia. Iron is very important to a baby’s development in the womb. It helps create hemoglobin which are red blood cells that carry oxygen throughout the body.
To treat iron deficiency, women can make sure to eat iron-enriched foods, take an iron supplement, or have an iron infusion. If iron deficiency is not treated, complications could arise such as miscarriage or preterm labor. The baby could also be born at a low birth weight, which can come with other complications. Since the Phillips are home from the hospital, the delivery must have gone smoothly and mom and baby are recovering just fine.
Hopefully, the “Dance With Me Singer” and his wonderful wife are soaking up all the newborn snuggles and enjoying their first weeks as new parents!
