Pippa Middleton is a mom!
The 35-year-old socialite and younger sister of Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, delivered a healthy baby boy yesterday at 1:58 p.m. local time, according to reports.
For weeks, there was a ton of buzz about the imminent arrival of the new little one. Middleton and her husband, James Matthews, 43, had recently been photographed around London preparing for their new baby and even toured the exclusive Lindo Wing where Middleton was set to give birth. However, rumours began swirling in earnest yesterday when Middleton and Matthews were spotted checking into the hospital and carrying overnight bags.
Middleton didn’t officially confirm her pregnancy until this past summer when she made the subtle announcement via a piece for Waitrose Weekend magazine. She continued to write for the magazine throughout her pregnancy, offering healthy tips and detailing her modified workout regime.
“When I learned the happy news that I was pregnant, I realized I needed to adjust my normal 4-to-5-day-a-week routine and find a way of continuing my exercise safely throughout the three trimesters,” she penned.
The new baby, whose name we have yet to learn, weighed in at eight pounds, nine ounces and is happy and healthy. He is the first nephew for Kate Middleton and her husband, Prince William, and the first cousin for Prince George, 5, Princess Charlotte, 3, and Prince Louis, six months.
Upon hearing of the birth, Kensington Palace responded to the happy news by issuing an official statement on behalf of Kate Middleton and Prince William.
"The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are thrilled for Pippa and James," the Palace said.
The arrival of the new baby came on the heels of Princess Eugenie’s wedding last week to Jack Brooksbank. A very heavily pregnant Middleton was spotted in attendance, wearing a beautiful long, dark green gown, and accompanied by her husband.
The baby is the first child for Middleton and Matthews, a hedge fund manager. The pair were married last May in an intimate ceremony at St. Mark’s Church in Englefield, England.
Coincidentally, he was also born on the very same day as Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, and Prince Harry, Prince William’s younger brother, announced they were expecting. The pair will be welcoming a new baby themselves in the spring of 2019.
