Trigger: Mention of death.
One young couple expanding their family has had their lives come to a sudden and tragic end.
In Ohio, a pregnant woman and her boyfriend have both been found dead in different vacant houses. The deceased couple has been identified as 20-year-old Kyla Hayton and 28-year-old Todd Burkart. They had been last seen back on Saturday, November 16th, 2o19 in Mansfield, Ohio. According to local police, they were in town traveling together when they went missing. Brent Hayton, Hayton's father, said in one interview that he received a text from his daughter on the 16th. However, he believes that the text in question wasn't written by her.
It was just four days later on Wednesday, November 20th when the couple's 2003 Toyota Corolla was found abandoned with one of its windows was broken. It was discovered in Dayton, Ohio that has a lot of vacant and abandoned homes around. However, neither Hayton nor Burkart were found at the time.
Two days later, investigators received a tip to conduct a search at an abandoned house located close to where their car had been found. It was inside this house where they located Burkart's body. He was found with multiple gunshot wounds as his cause of death.
On Monday, November 25th, Hayton's body was found in a different vacant house in the same area. She was discovered by investigators with the assistance of cadaver dogs. It hasn't been revealed how she died, but it's clear that she was murdered. Hayton was also five months pregnant at the time of her death.
There has been a person of interest named in the couple's death- 30-year-old Larry Rodgers. According to investigators, he was a known acquaintance of Burkhart, though the extent of their relationship hasn't been revealed by police. While he hasn't been charged for Burkhart and Hayton's murders, he's currently being held on unrelated weapons charges. It's unknown if he's retained a lawyer yet, and the police are continuing their investigation.
Burkhart and Hayton have left behind a four-year-old daughter (who was been watched after by her grandmother when her parents went missing), as well as their extended family. Our thoughts are with them at this time, and we hope that justice will eventually be served for the young couple.
