One pregnant woman in Putrajaya, Malaysia, and her newborn baby are lucky to alive after the mom-to-be was attacked by her own husband.
According to Putrajaya OCPD, the pregnant woman drove herself to the hospital and gave birth after she was slashed by her husband. The 35-year-old woman, who has gone unidentified in the news media, was attacked this past Friday at around 9:50AM local time. When she arrived at Putrajaya Hospital and "wheeled into the Emergency Department's yellow zone", police were contacted the very next day to investigate what had happened to her.
The woman allegedly told police that her 39-year-old husband had attacked her with a knife at their own home in Presint 9 for unknown reasons. The attack resulted in injuries to her back, finger, right arm, and stomach. While this is scary enough on its own, what made it worse was that she was 37 weeks pregnant at the time. She was transferred to the hospital's Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, gave birth to a son, and continues to be in critical condition right now. It appears as though her son was born without any complications or issues.
As for the woman's husband, who also remains unidentified, he's been arrested for attacking his pregnant wife. Police went to his home, where he was taken into custody without incident. They also found the weapon that was used in the attack and seized it as evidence. It's unknown at this time what charges the husband will face for his actions. He worked as an audio engineer at the time of the incident.
"We have remanded the suspect until Nov 15th to help with further investigations. The motive of the attack is still being investigated," Putrajaya OCPD Asst Comm Rosly Hasan explained.
It's clear that the local police will have a lot of investigating to do in order to figure out why this attack happened, as well as what charges will be laid against the husband. In the meantime, our thoughts are with the new mom and her baby boy as they recover from his traumatic event.
