A pregnant woman has suffered injuries after a shooting in Chatham, Chicago. Taken to the University of Chicago Hospital, the woman was said to be in critical condition amid a drive-by shooting that occurred on Friday the 17th. Two other people along with the pregnant woman were victims of this violent attack, including a thirteen-year-old boy and twenty-one-year-old man.

Gun violence have increased all over the country, especially in major cities like in Chicago, Philadelphia, and New York. According to ABC 7 Eyewitness News, the twenty-seven-year-old pregnant woman was on the 8200-block of South Drexel when the horrific shooting happened around 5:30 in the afternoon. The pregnant woman is said to be Evita London. According to police officers at the scene, Evita London was reportedly eight months pregnant and shot in the buttocks. London was on the sidewalk selling Snow Cones and Candy, which she is said to do every day, when the unknown vehicle came and fired shots at her.

According to Yahoo News, London was in serious to critical condition when arriving at the hospital. Fortunately for close family and friends, London has been stabilized, and her unborn baby is said to be doing well, although they are still being monitored. However, Chicago police currently have no suspects in custody or have any ID for the vehicle involved in the Drive-by.

Safety is essential during pregnancy, and any trauma can affect you and your child. Gunshot wounds are among the leading causes of general trauma, but According to SciElo, during one in 12 pregnancies, expectant women will suffer trauma. Gun violence trauma can be helped in several different ways. It is important to note that people may go through different shock stages after being in a gun incident. Ways to try and overcome trauma is by asking and accepting for professional help. Another beneficial way for someone to recover is to have the support and care from close friends and family members.

With London reportedly being stable, recovery is important. Along with London's recovery, the health of her unborn baby- who is expected to enter the world soon- is also essential. The help and support from her family is needed during this time of uncertainty and recovery.
