Prince Harry fought back tears at this year's WellChild Awards annual ceremony revealing that when he was in attendance last year, he was keeping Meghan Markle's pregnancy a secret.

During his speech at the annual award ceremony in the United Kingdom, the Prince opened up to the audience about his emotions during last year's show. He began by saying, "Last year, when my wife and I attended, we knew we were expecting our first child — no one else did at the time, but we did — and I remember…”At this point,  Prince Harry began to tear up and paused for a moment to collect himself.

The audience supported the red-headed Duke with applause and he soon continued his thoughts. He shared that he and Meghan's feelings were all over the place at the event and the couple had no idea what to expect for when they would become parents.

The WellChild Award's purpose is to celebrate children who are seriously ill yet show incredible character and remain brave in trying times. Those that dedicate their life and time to these children such as doctors and therapists are also recognized. WellChild is a national UK charity dedicated to providing care, comfort, support, and to seriously ill children and their families.

The Duke of Sussex has been involved with the charity since 2007. Last year was Meghan Markle's first appearance and she was there again this year.

Prince Harry acknowledged the emotion of the event and elaborated that he "squeezed Meghan's hand" thinking about what it would be like to be parents and, "what it would be like to do everything we could to protect and help our child should they be born with immediate challenges or become unwell over time.” You can watch the Duke of Sussex's speech in its entirety below.

He finished off his poignant speech by saying, "And now, as parents, being here and speaking to all of your pulls at my heartstrings in a way I could have never understood until I had a child of my own." And he is so right. Your entire world changes when you have a child, your love grows immensely.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle became first-time parents in May of this year when their son Archie Harrison was born. The family just finished a tour of Africa. They continue to attend events that are close to their hearts.
