There has been much speculation over who will be named Archie Harrison’s godparents. However, it looks like the baby’s famous parents Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be keeping it a secret indefinitely.

Ahead of Archie’s christening, which will take place on July 6th, Buckingham Palace released a formal statement in which they declared the child’s godparents will not be revealed publicly. “The godparents, in keeping with their wishes, will remain private,” the announcement read.

The royal statement did, however, add that photos will be released from the intimate ceremony- just don’t expect any photos of the godparents, we guess. “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex look forward to sharing some images taken on the day by photographer Chris Allerton,” the statement continued.

This news has lead some fans to wonder whether the royals have actually chosen godparents for baby Archie. Just a few weeks ago, a source told InTouch that Meghan and Harry couldn’t stop fighting over the topic. “Meghan and Harry are squabbling over who should be godparents,” they revealed. “Harry wants to ask old friends who he’s known since he was little, whereas Meghan wants her A-list pals to be Archie’s guardians.” The same source said that George and Amal Clooney were up for consideration, though Harry quickly turned it down.

Some rumours have suggested the Obamas were a realistic choice for the couple. Both Meghan and Harry have grown close to the former U.S. President and First Lady. Such a high-profile choice would draw a lot of attention as well as criticism. So, perhaps the new parents are choosing to reveal the godparent’s identities because of their star-power. While this might sound a bit of a stretch, it’s definitely not out of the realm of possibility.

Archie’s christening will unfold tomorrow at Queen Elizabeth’s private chapel at Windsor Castle. A source told People that Meghan and Harry specifically chose the venues because they “wanted an intimate, peaceful setting in a place with such a special connection to Her Majesty.” It also doesn’t hurt that the couple and their son won’t have to travel far from their home at Frogmore Cottage.

According to the publication, Archie’s christening will likely only have around 25 guests, all of whom are expected to be family or close friends. “This is a beautiful milestone and they are excited to share it as a family first and then with the world,” the insider added.
