In the incredible royal news update that we've all been waiting for, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expecting their first child! Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their pregnancy this morning and their much-anticipated baby is due in the spring of 2019. Their child will be seventh in line for the British throne.
The announcement comes from Kensington Palace and was a simple affair with an informative Twitter post. The photo shows the Duchess and Duke smiling at an event looking happy as always. These definitely aren't professional baby announcement photos, which makes this royal couple even more relatable.
Their pregnancy news comes the weekend after Harry's cousin Princess Eugenie's royal wedding. The Duke and Duchess were in attendance but there wasn't much speculation or attention on them. The stylish Duchess wore a large coat which now seems suspect but the rumors hadn't started quite yet. They beat the press to it!
It has been just five months since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wed in May, and they clearly didn't waste any time! Harry and Meghan met on a blind date in the summer of 2016. Their whirlwind romance was kept very hush-hush until they started very slowly becoming victim to rumors and criticism.
As Meghan Markle was attacked by the press, her then-boyfriend Harry released a strongly worded statement through Kensington Palace in November of 2016 standing up for her and revealing his love and commitment. The bi-racial Duchess has been a breath of fresh air for a previously traditional Royal Monarchy. As a divorced American and self-proclaimed feminist, Meghan's welcoming into Harry's family has signaled a change and some needed diversity into the 21st century.
Presently, the couple has started a 16-day tour in Australia and the announcement may be timed with the warmer weather on the other side of the hemisphere. There will be no large coats to hide a growing baby bump.
The new baby will likely be given the title of Earl or Lady. Being seventh-in-line, this baby likely won't be king or queen, but we're betting he or she will be absolutely adorable!
It's safe to say that the world will be watching and anticipating everything with this whole pregnancy. But we all know Harry and Meghan will be as private as ever. A big congratulations to the lovely couple!
