Serena Williams walked the New York Fashion Week (NYFW) runway carrying her two-year-old daughter, Alexis, in her arms. The tennis legend has become a fashion icon as well, and her presence on the runway confirms it. She is a pioneer of women’s fashion and an amazing role model for girls with athletic builds.

NYFW has become a place where different kinds of beauty is showcased. In the past, there was a very strict standard of beauty that was followed by most fashion brands and shows. Thankfully, times have changed, and those who run the fashion world are celebrating the diversity of appearances that we have in reality. With Serena’s strong presence in the world of fashion, athletic girls don’t have to feel the pressure to look more delicate.

On September 10th, Serena stunned the NYFW crowd with her 2020 Spring/Summer collection. She strutted down the runway in a snakeskin skirt and a sheer black top. She showed off her incredibly toned legs walking in her black high-top sneakers—no heels necessary for this girl! Her daughter, Alexis, also made her runway debut that night. In an outfit with a similar theme to her mom’s, Alexis received a lot of applause and praise from the crowd because she just looked so cute.

Serena is a fashion icon both on and off the court. She faces her opponents in amazing outfits—showing you don’t have to restrict yourself to boring clothing when you’re an athlete. In 2018, she wore her famous black tutu at the U.S. Open. This was after her Black Panther-inspired catsuit was banned from the court. Earlier this year, the tennis star wowed the world in a bright yellow Versace gown and neon Nike sneakers.

S by Serena is showing girls of all shapes and sizes that they can be fashionable too. Whatever unattainable standards of beauty they’ve been following are completely ridiculous, and they can make their own iconic looks without drastically changing themselves. Alexis is lucky to have such a strong female role model in her life, and she will grow up knowing she can do anything and look amazing while doing it.
