Shay Mitchell's boyfriend believes that he gets a say in whether or not she gets an epidural during labor.

When women get pregnant they usually have an idea on the type of birth that they would like. Before going into labor women know if they would like to have an unmedicated or medicated birth, home birth or hospital, and they will also have an idea on what kind of care they would like during the labor. Usually, the man does not have any opinion on the matter and will just sit back and support the mother in whatever decisions she had made for her and the baby. However, Shay Mitchell's boyfriend believes that he has a say on the type of birth that Shay should have.

During her pregnancy, Shay has kept us up-to-date on all of her pregnancy feelings in a hilarious way! We have loved listening to her discuss all of her feelings about this process. In one of the most recent Youtube videos, Shay has opened up about her birth plan with her boyfriend, Matte Babel. Babel shares his strong opinions on whether or not women should receive an epidural during labor. She told Babel that she really wants to have a talk with him because they need to be on the same page. “You say no epidural, I say epidural.” Babel apparently does not want Shay to get an epidural during labor and Shay really wants to have one.

Babel said that he doesn't want her to have an epidural because he is afraid of drugs. He explains that his mother didn't use an epidural and he meets women all of the time who went through labor without an epidural and so he knows that it can be done. He is afraid of his girlfriend having an epidural and believes she can do it without one. Mitchell asks “Would you get a root canal without any drugs?” she continues. “You’re in excruciating pain and I’m holding the medicine like this and I’m like, ‘You can have it and it wouldn’t do any harm, but you don’t want it. Do you want to be a fighter? Fight through it.'"  Then Babel responds by saying, “A root canal is not comparable because you’re not born to go through a root canal. As a woman, your body is genetically engineered to give birth.”

Not only does Babel have his opinions on epidurals he also shared how all women should breastfeed their baby. He said that if a woman has milk and their baby latches perfectly why wouldn't a mother want to feed her child breastmilk? Mitchell then chimes in and explains that "formula is good too." For a man who isn't going to be going through childbirth and breastfeeding, he sure has a lot of opinions on the matter.
