Pros

Commercial Use

Some parents create Instagram accounts for their kids for commercial purposes. These parents have devised ways to make money online- and babies can sell. If a parent is planning to sell baby-related products, she can use their baby as a model. That in turn, will attract an audience to the page and eventually make sales. Other parents showcase their babies’ photos online so that they land adverts and endorsements. They can also become influencers in some way.

Keeps People Updated

It's not always easy for friends and family to keep in touch with as much as they would want, especially when long distances are involved. Some parents open these accounts to share their baby’s photos with close friends and family. That way, with the click of a button, friends, and family can stay connected with your child’s development. They can also view them for years to come.

Portable Photo Album

Instagram is a good platform for sharing pictures and milestones of your kids because it can be accessed anywhere. Parents can use the account as a memory keeper, where they can capture memories while pregnant up until the child is born, and even thereafter.

Eventually, they can hand over the account to their kid when he or she is old enough to run it. However, parents should avoid sharing photos that the child will find embarrassing when they're much older. The most common culprits are pictures of them having a tantrum or getting their diaper changed.

Someone's Always Watching

Some parents know the risks of sharing their kid’s photos online. But they feel that if they're constantly being watched why not be the ones to post their kids. There are CCTV cameras all over that record everything we do- including our kids. Therefore, posting them online is no different from CCTV footage. At least this way, parents are in control of the content.

Cons

Comparison

Parents can also get trapped in the comparison babble that occurs on social media. With an Instagram account for your baby, it’s easy to feel like you're not keeping up with what other parents are doing for their kids.

But Instagram only adds pressure. It can make you feel like you aren't doing enough. You may also find yourself compare your baby with other babies- especially when he or she doesn’t hit a milestone on time.

Some people argue that a parent gave birth to their child, and therefore is in charge of them until he or she is 18. It still doesn't give them the right to post their pictures online without their consent.

Some parents feel that kids should have a right to say yes or no before their lives are paraded online. Even with security settings in place, privacy is a big issue online; it’s easy to expose your kids to bullies, stalkers, and pedophiles which is every parent’s worst nightmare.

Likes And Comments

Sharing pictures and videos of your baby online may seem like a good idea- that is until they don’t get likes, and you're then left devastated. Some parents feel bad when their baby isn't shown love even though to them, he or she means the world. But what's worse than getting no likes is receiving negative comments. Not everyone will agree with your parenting style, so some people may go as far as to leave nasty comments. When the child grows up and comes across such comments, it can affect their self-worth.

Commercial Use

This can be both a pro and a con. As a con, malicious people can use your baby’s photos and videos to gain income without your authorization. Taking photos of other people online is so easy nowadays with screenshots and apps.

At the end of the day, the choice of whether or not to make an Instagram account for your baby is up to you. Consider All the pros and cons above before you make a decision. Remember- what goes up on the internet will stay there forever.
