Tamron Hall has opened up about the reason she kept the news of her recent pregnancy under wraps for as long as she did. The television host gave birth to a baby son, Moses in April, and revealed her pregnancy at the 32-week mark.

"I was high-risk, not just because of my age [48], but there were other medical factors too,” the former Today host told PEOPLE.

Hall was advised to take the announcement at her own pace, and she decided to keep the news to herself because she was worried about miscarrying. "My doctor said, ‘This is your body, your health. You share of your journey what you want to share.' I was terrified I would lose this baby and I would have to go back and tell everyone that now it was bad news, and after this pregnancy had gone so far.”

Hall also said that she would have kept the pregnancy secret even longer if that had been possible. "I just wasn’t mentally prepared to deal with that,” Hall said. “That’s why I waited. And trust me—if I could’ve gone the whole way to delivery, I would've."

Hall tells PEOPLE she initially tried fertility treatments in her 30s, which failed, but everything changed when she entered a fertility clinic again. Looking around at the other women there, she realized that she wasn’t alone but that biology was not on her side. Hall admits: “When I tried in my 30s, I still felt like I had some time, and the fertility clinic felt like a bright room. In my 40s I saw all the gray: The faces looked gray, the walls were gray, nothing seemed shiny and optimistic.”

Thankfully, everything worked out just fine for Hall this time, and she announced her pregnancy in March with a video set to "Baby Shark."

"I’ve wanted to share this news for many months and now finally my doctor has said I am in a safe place, at 32 weeks, to share my joy with y’all," she wrote in her Instagram caption.

After giving birth to her adorable son Moses on April 25, 2019, Hall also mentioned her husband, music executive Steven Greener, in her Instagram announcement. "Photo credit: Dad who can’t stop crying tears of joy. Thank y’all for the love and support. It got us here," she wrote.
