If you're needing to get rid of a car seat, don’t throw it out just yet! Target’s famous Car Seat Trade-in Event has returned for a limited time. So, while you may be ready to get rid of the clutter, you can actually trade-in your car seat for a good deal at Target instead.

From now until September 26, you can recycle an old car seat or base at your nearby Target and get a 20% off coupon for a new car seat, base, travel system, stroller, or select baby gear with Target Circle. According to Target’s website, the process is simple for those who are interested in participating in the great deal. First, you will take your old car seat or base to a nearby Target and drop it off in the designated box inside the store. Next, you will open your Target app and scan the code on the box. If you need a little help, you can talk to a Team Member in Guest Services. Once you are in the Target app, you will open the Wallet tab and click to view “Extra offers” where you will find your coupon and other savings. To get your 20% coupon, you will click the green checkmark next to the offer and then place your order online, or scan your barcode at the register. The deal kicked off on September 13 and while Target will stop accepting car seats on September 26, you can use the coupon in-store and online until October 3.

Target will accept all types of car seats, including infant car seats, convertible car seats, car seat bases, harness or booster car seats. The retail chain is also accepting car seats that are damaged or expired. You can only drop off the car seats inside of a Target store. The box will be located near Guest Services. All Target stores (including select small-format stores) are participating in the event. There is a one Circle coupon per guest. The recycled car seats will be used to make other products. Materials from the car seats will be recycled with Waste Management to create other items like plastic buckets, pallets, and construction materials such as carpet padding and steel beams.

This isn’t the first time Target has held the car seat trade-in event. It was first introduced in April of 2016. Since its implementation, 14.4 million pounds of car seats, or more than 961,00 car seats, have been recycled.
