Teen Mom fans are in for a big surprise after Ryan and Mackenzie Edwards announced they’re expecting their second child- a little girl!- less than a year after welcoming their first son.
“Baby Girl Edwards is coming in January!” Mackenzie captioned an Instagram post on Friday, alongside a sonogram photo showing the couple’s newest addition.
Ryan shares an older son, 10-year old Bentley, with his former high school girlfriend, Maci Bookout. Their teenage pregnancy helped them score a spot on the long-lasting reality show. Ryan went on to marry Mackenzie in 2017 and they welcomed their first child together, 10-month old Jagger, last year. Mackenzie also has a son, Hudson, from her first marriage.
The couple’s pregnancy news comes as a shock to many fans given the very public problems the two have had in the last few years. Namely, Ryan has seriously struggled with his sobriety and has also been in and out of jail as well as rehab. He even missed the birth of his son last year when he was in the slammer for possession-related charges; he was only released this past April. Only a few weeks ago was the reality star released from a months-long intensive rehab program, but it’s unclear how well he’s doing now that he’s out.
Nonetheless, Mackenzie said that Ryan’s mother, Jen Edwards, is thrilled to be expecting her first granddaughter. “I’ll bet [bet] is over the moon,” one fan wrote in the comments. Mack replied by writing, “That’s a major understatement.”
Unfortunately, however, not all fans were as excited for Ryan and Mackenzie. Many of the celebrity’s followers left rude comments on the pregnancy announcement, questioning why she would want to have a child when her husband has clearly been struggling so much. Others expressed surprise that it was a baby announcement not a divorce announcement. As a result of the backlash, Mackenzie has since turned off commenting on the post.
Ryan’s ex Maci has yet to speak out about the pregnancy news. She has, however, been vocal about his struggles on the show. In past seasons she’s been supportive of him seeking treatment, but now that the impact on their son is beginning to show, the star has become more protective. It’s unclear how involved Ryan is or is not in Bentley’s life, yet just last episode Maci said he hadn’t made any efforts to see his son after getting out of jail. Hopefully baby no. 3 will make Ryan turn his act around!
