Teen Mom OG star, Taylor Selfridge, opened up about her current pregnancy issues to help clear things up and get rid of any confusion.

Selfridge was originally pregnant with twins before finding out that only one baby was growing. With a heap of comments surrounding her 'miscarriage', Selfridge has spoken out to explain that it's not a miscarriage and that she really doesn't like people referring to it as such.

Experiencing what is called vanishing twin syndrome (or disappearing twin syndrome), Selfridge lost one of her babies early on in her pregnancy. Though technically a miscarriage, Selfridge stresses she is still currently pregnant with a healthy baby.

Verywellfamily explains that this phenomenon may actually be a lot more common than people realize. The statistics say that in looking at pregnancies of multiples before the 12-week mark, it's estimated that it occurs in 36% of pregnancies involving twins and roughly 50% in pregnancies of three babies or more.

Since many people don't get early ultrasounds, a lot of 'vanishing twins' may go undetected by doctors especially given the lack of symptoms, especially early on. Sometimes a woman may experience what she thinks is a full miscarriage which typically involves vaginal bleeding and cramping only to find a fully healthy developing baby on an ultrasound screen.

Selfridge explains that she had no idea she had lost one of her twins. "We went in for a check-up on our baby and they had found a separate empty sac so we didn't know that we had twins before that," she tells Us Weekly.

Selfridge shared the news publicly on Instagram on November 27th saying, "I'm doing just fine. I'm happy, healthy, our baby is healthy. A few days after the announcement, we found out we were supposed to actually have twins, I ended up losing one of them. But on the positive side, my baby is healthy! And I'm 19 weeks now."

Though Selfridge did share that she felt guilty about the loss, she's now coming to terms with the fact it wasn't her fault. Research shows that the syndrome is usually caused by chromosomal abnormalities in the baby that's lost but sometimes no one can know for sure.

There is an increased risk of birth defects in babies who had a 'vanishing twin', many babies are born perfectly healthy. Selfridge and her partner, Cory Wharton, are sad about the lost baby but are also very excited that they have a healthy one on the way.
