For some, combining both celebrations is a tall order.

I am a December baby. Although my birthday isn't on Christmas, having a birthday in the middle of the holiday season has its ups and downs. When I was younger, I loved how my family separated my birthday from Christmas, but I still had some family and friends who would combine them both together when it came to giving me presents. It wasn't that I wasn't thankful, I just felt it unnecessary to gift me a present for two celebrations. I was completely fine with people giving me a gift for one occasion. However, I always felt a bit slighted when folks would give me gifts meant for both my birthday and Christmas because it felt like they didn't really want to do it in the first place.

"I got you a gift. This is your Christmas and belated birthday present because I know you are already spoiled and you can't say I didn't do anything for you," some would tell me. How loving does that sound, right? Holiday babies are always torn because on one hand, they get guaranteed family time. All your family is together, everyone is happy and joyous but on the other hand, your Christmas birthday is only being half celebrated because everyone really wants to enjoy the Christmas holiday and you just happen to be there. Your family and friends might not do that to you intentionally but it sure feels like it.

So what are the solutions? How can you celebrate your baby's birthday on Christmas without making your child feel compromised? Here are a few options you can ponder over to ensure everyone, including your Christmas baby, is happy.

Ditch the traditional Christmas decor

Instead of the green tree and red, white and gold ornaments, try something different. Maybe a purple tree? What's your baby's favorite color? Use those colors to decorate the house for Christmas day and perhaps, after Christmas, add more traditional festive decor.

Have half-birthdays

According to this writer at The Atlantic who is also a Christmas baby, suggests having half-birthdays to give your child a more exclusive birthday celebration.

Celebrate Christmas first and the birthday in the afternoon

The kids will be excited about getting toys but you know what else is exciting? Eating ice cream and pizza. If everyone gets up early and get their gifts and take a nap, you all will have most of the Christmas thrills out your system and can dedicate some energy to your Christmas baby.

Whatever you do, just keep your Christmas baby in mind.
