Every parent has felt like sleep could well be a thing of the past, but we've never been as tired as this poor dad.

We don't want to frighten any soon-to-be parents out there, but there really is no preparing you for how little sleep you're going to get once your baby arrives. Your newborn will know nothing of night and day, and chances are that won't change for a while. You can try every trick in the book to try and counteract or outsmart them but the fact of the matter is, once you're a parent you'll be getting a lot less sleep than you used to.

If you're lucky, you'll have a partner to split the workload with. Just make sure your other half is doing their fair share. None of this "I'll take the day shift and you do the night shift" rubbish. If you're going to feel drained and tired all hours of the day, then you want your partner in crime to be right there with you.

There's no telling when exactly the realization that a good night's sleep has become a thing of the past will hit you. For the poor dad in the video below, it looks as if that new reality struck before he and his partner had even left the hospital. After dozing off in a chair, the mother of his child threw a balled up robe at him. As you can see from the clip, things then get a little weird.

We don't quite know what was going through the new dad's head, but for some reason, he thought the robe was his newborn baby. In his sleepy state, he didn't question why the mom threw the "baby" at him, he just takes the robe and gently begins to cradle it. We're not sure when he realizes it isn't actually his child as by the end of the clip, he is still giving the robe his undivided care and attention.

As you can see from the video, being filmed by his partner, the newborn is safe in the arms of their mom. Meanwhile, his poor sleep-deprived dad is treating a piece of clothing as if it is more important than anything in the world. A good indicator of how much he loves his new child, but not such a good indicator of how well he is going to handle the lack of sleep that will ensue in the coming months.
