In a heartbreaking discovery, twin baby boys were found on the side of train tracks on Worcester, Massachusetts after being abandoned.
The 9-month old infants were found by a railroad engineer who had been working an overnight shift on July 3rd. “I saw the little baby wave at me,” Eric Martell told NBC Boston. “I saw his little arm, he started sucking his thumb, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, there’s a baby in there.'”
Despite their circumstances, the employee said the babies seemed to be in good spirits when he found them. “They seemed healthy. They actually had shoes on, they were a little bit chubby, like a baby’s supposed to be,” he explained. He added that the children had also been left with some ‘essentials.’ “They were left with bottles and one of them even had a little binky, they were in a nice carriage,” Martell added.

After being unable to locate any adults within the near proximity, Martell explained that he decided to call authorities. The twins were then looked at by medical personnel, who later said infants appeared to be “unharmed.”
“One of the little guys looked up to me, gave me the biggest little smile and I was like, ‘It’s going to be alright, buddy. It’s going to be alright, I got you,'” Martell continued.
A spokesperson for Worcester police has confirmed the case is currently under investigation. They also said the babies have been identified, though they remain in the custody of the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families. It remains unclear who abandoned them or why they did so, or if the children’s’ parents had anything to do with it.
A witness by the name of Carl Wooden has since told WCVB news network that he was with the babies’ family only an hour before the children were discovered. According to him, he can’t fathom how something like this happened. “I’m in shock still. I’m, like, walking around in circles just totally in awe,” he told the network. “It’s traumatizing to me that something like this could even happen.”
As the case remains ongoing, police are asking for the public’s help. If anyone has any information that may be pertinent or relevant, they are urged to contact the Worcester Police Detective Bureau at 508-799-8651.
