If you're a brand new parent, currently expecting a baby or plan on celebrating the impending arrival of a friend or family member's newest bundle of joy this year, you may want to stop everything you're doing and mark this coming Saturday, February 23 in your calendar.
Go ahead. We'll wait.
Retail giant Walmart announced this week that they will be holding Baby Savings Day this Saturday at most of its retail stores across the United States, as well as online at Walmart.com. This event promises to be the largest in-store baby event of the year, with massive discounts in-store and online.
Not only will there be huge savings on February 23, but those shoppers who venture in will also be treated to hands-on demos from the latest and greatest in baby gear and accessories, be able to consult with specialists and of course, take home tons of free samples to try out. This is all part of the company's Baby Savings Days, happening the entire month of February where almost all baby gear is marked down, sometimes up to 30 per cent off.
This event comes on the heels of Walmart's recent enhancement of their baby product offerings both in-store and online after the closure of the famous Toys 'R' Us and Babies 'R' Us franchises late last year. This past summer, Walmart.com unveiled a brand new landing page exclusively for all things baby, sorted by category and age, which also includes a diverse range of products from furniture and car seats, to bottles, diapers and even baby food.
Should Amazon be worried? Some experts say yes. There seems to be an intensifying price competition between the two retail giants as of late with Walmart trying to squeeze out Amazon’s growth by offering more products online with fast delivery options. Walmart's latest push to offer competitively priced baby items is yet another tactic, especially in light of competitors like Toys 'R' Us and Babies 'R' Us no longer being in the picture.
