For those who think that there is no difference between having a baby boy or a baby girl, they may be surprised by the unexpected differences between the two. While there may be some similarities in behavior or perhaps with meeting certain milestones, by and large, the two genders are very different as babies. As such, those who have previously had girls or perhaps grew up babysitting baby girls will discover quickly that there is a difference between the two. And because of this, moms will find out very quickly what is important to know about having a baby boy.

According to What To Expect, some major differences between baby boys and girls come from their height, weight, speaking skills, and perhaps in mobility as well. These are just the major differences. When it comes to caring for the two sexes, each requires specifics in that department as well. Therefore, it would not come as a surprise that the outlook on how to parent may be varied as well. All because of what parents of baby boys need to know versus what those of baby girls do.

Here is what you need to know about having a baby boy.

Pee Will Happen A Lot

Parents of baby boys will learn nearly immediately that every time a diaper change happens, there will be the immediate response of needing to pee. And unfortunately, there will be no warning when that is about to happen.

According to BabyMed, peeing is an "automatic response." This is because when the soiled diaper comes off, there is a rush of cold air that hits baby boys' abdomens and genitals. When this happens, the body automatically relieves itself. Much to the chagrin of parents who are changing diapers.

To keep from being sprayed by urine, it is recommended that parents either place a new diaper over the genitals when changing to catch the spray or wait a moment after the soiled diaper is changed to remove it, according to the publication. Doing this greatly reduces the chances of being doused by urine, something that any parent who has experienced would be happy to not have it happen again.

There Is Circumcision To Consider

Baby boys are born without a circumcised penis. As a result, parents will have to make the decision if they want to move forward with circumcision or leave little ones intact.

According to the UT Southwestern Medical Center, circumcision was once considered a norm in the United States. As such, once baby boys were born, they were taken from their mothers to have the procedure done. Once done, the baby was returned.

These days, there are parents on both sides of the coin who feel very strongly about circumcising their sons and not circumcising them. Either is acceptable and is the right of parents.

For those who move forward with the procedure, their baby boys will be less prone to UTIs, per the publication. But as long as proper hygiene is performed, there is no right or wrong choice when it comes to circumcision.

Starting around four to six months of age, baby boys will begin to purposefully touch their genitals, according to BabyCenter. While it may make parents uncomfortable when their little ones do this, it is completely normal.

Once baby boys find their penises, there is no telling if they will touch themselves frequently or on occasion, per the publication. That is all up to the personality of each individual baby. And the touching is something that may last until boys are five to six years of age.

Clothes Shopping Is Fairly Bland

When women find out they are having a baby boy, they go out and do some clothes shopping for them. What they find out very quickly though is that there is not much variety in the clothing to choose from. Something that can be a bit of a disappointment, especially when the girls' clothing selection is vast.

Dressing boys comes down to choosing pants and tops that vary from jeans to sweats, shorts, T-shirts, and polos. That is it. It can be easier to choose an outfit for them than it is for girls. And this could mean that clothing gets more use as well.

Naming Baby Boys Is Had

It may seem like choosing a baby name for a boy would be easy. But the truth of the matter is that it can actually be harder than choosing a name for a girl.

Because girls can get away with any name, male or female-oriented, they have a variety of names to choose from. This is not the case for boys. They are limited to masculine names, with a sprinkling of those that have been deemed appropriate for either sex. As such, the combination of first and middle names can be difficult to come up with. And given that it is a name they will have for a lifetime, parents can feel the pressure.

According to Press Wire, for those having a hard time coming up with the perfect name for their baby, there are some tips that may help. Those tips include:

  • Start with a nickname
  • Choose a family name
  • Pick a popular name
  • Choose a name that is movie-inspired
  • Come up with a unique name
  • Pay attention to initials when first, middle and last names are put together
  • Look at baby name websites
  • Match names with other kids

These tips should get parents on the right track to choosing the right name for their baby boys. And once they do, it will be just right for their babies.
