If you're like most moms, you probably won't argue when someone says that kids are weird. Most likely, you've come across your own kids muttering something odd to themselves while alone or looking at the back of their tongue in the mirror or something else wacky.
After all, childhood is the age of discovery, right? So, kids are allowed to be a little weird. But how weird is too weird?
It's safe to say that weirdness and oddities are measured on a sliding scale. And, it's safe to say that celebrities are measured on a different scale apart from us regular Joes.
Let's just get right down to business and examine the family at hand. Will Smith and his brood are one of the most famous families in Tinsel Town. Both he and his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith have both done well for themselves.
Will and Jada have raised two children of their own and Will has another son with his first partner Sheree Zampino. While none of the kids are horrible threats to society, the two younger ones are definitely unique in their own way.
If kids are indeed a product of their environment, Will and Jada provided a very free-spirited environment for their children. Both Willow and Jaden Smith have some weird qualities about them that sort of set them apart from the rest of society.
Let's check it out!
15 They Were Never Disciplined
It probably comes as no surprise to you that a Hollywood family doesn't discipline their children. Shocker, I know. Why is it that we think this way? Rather, why is it that celebrities think it's okay not to train or discipline your children?
Well, Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith believe that their children are responsible for their own lives. In fact, they gave them as much control as they wanted while growing up.
So, maybe celebrities believe in a higher form of guidance rather than hum-drum of parenting. Will has alluded to the fact that he slightly regrets giving them so much freedom in their early years based on the individuals they turned out to be.
14 Willow Can Supposedly Control Time
You've likely heard the saying that everyone has been given the same amount of time each day. We all have 24 hours, right? Well, according to Willow Smith, that's definitely not the case.
She actually doesn't believe that time even exists. Nope. Time isn't a real thing according to her Willow philosophy. As in the picture, she claims that she can make time go fast or slow. Based on this notion, she believes that time has excluded itself from reality.
I'm sure you've experienced moments or even days that flew by simply because you were busy and lost track of time. Then there are days where it feels like the day will never end. Maybe, Willow is experiencing the same thing as the rest of us and perceives it in her own special way. Who knows?
While she's not quite as "weirdly" outspoken as her older brother Jaden, it's clear that Willow has some very odd ways about her. But, more on that in the next point...
13 They Both Have Very Unique Qualities About Them
You probably got the chance to see both Willow and Jaden Smith growing up in front of the big screen. After all, they have both had their own major appearances.
I should probably add here that Will Smith actually has three children. He has a son named Trey with ex-partner Sheree Zampino. Unlike Willow and Jaden, Trey seems to have a level head about him. He pretty much walks around understanding that he holds no ethereal theories about our existence. All in all, he's a normal dude.
His two half-siblings, on the other hand, are a little out there. Their father even has second thoughts about how him and Jada raised their children. He admits that their lack of discipline may be part of the reason the often wacky behavior of his children. Still, he defends their right to behave how they want to.
12 Jaden Openly Opposes Learning About History
Not unlike his sister, Jaden has some out-of-this-world perceptions. Things that we just don't question, he makes the time to question. While this can be a unique and ground-breaking way to approach life, it can also totally miss the target.
One of his believes is that he doesn't believe in teaching history to children in school. As a lover of history, I'm not a fan of this particular idea. But, I guess a lot of kids get bored in history class.
His reasoning behind this is that rather than teaching kids what already happened, we should encourage them to change the future. The burning questions remains of how can we know what needs changed if we don't even know what has or hasn't worked in the past.
Perhaps, he's getting slightly caught up in the small picture and forgot that history also includes legacy and wisdom.
11 Jaden Is Also Opposed To Driver's Education
Could it be that Jaden simply doesn't like school and he's attempting to justify his "let's all play hooky" attitude by pegging radical new ideas on old stable ones? I know that's a lot to take in, but just check out his next opposition.
Jaden claims, "You never learn anything in school. Think about how many car accidents happen every day. Driver's ed? What's up? I still haven't been to driver's ed because if everybody I know has been in an accident, I can't see how driver's ed is really helping them out."
Sadly, this is still the epitome of a very small and irresponsible mind. What Jaden is forgetting is that it's not the teachers or the class sessions that make the person. What makes an individual who they are depends on the choices they make, regardless of what any one taught them or didn't teach them. It comes down to personal accountability...something that this Smith kid knows nothing about.
10 Jaden Knows No Limitations
Along with Jaden's wacky spewing of thoughts on social media, he has some good qualities, too. One thing that Will says about his son is that he is fearless.
This probably comes as no surprise to you either. When you don't have any discipline in your life you don't have any boundaries either. This can be a good and a bad thing. Having no boundaries makes you fearless because there are no consequences.
Like Will says, "It's really terrifying — but he is completely willing to live and die by his own artistic decisions and he just doesn’t concern himself with what people think."
Living according to your own rules is wonderful so long as the foundation of your rules align with a higher law.
9 Willow Thinks Her Life Is Worse For Having Famous Parents
All lifestyles have pros and cons. We usually see the pros in another lifestyle and the cons in our own. Willow Smith is no different. In regards to living out her teenage years in the public eye, she has a strong opinion.
“Growing up and trying to figure out your life … while people feel like they have some sort of entitlement to know what’s going on, is absolutely, excruciatingly terrible — and the only way to get over it, is to go into it,” she explained.
“You can’t change your face. You can’t change your parents. You can’t change any of those things. So I feel like most kids like me end up going down a spiral of depression ... When you’re born into it, there are two choices that you have; I’m either going to try to go into it completely and help from the inside, or … no one is going to know where I am … and I’m really going to take myself completely out of the eye of society. There’s really no in-between.”
8 They Might Be Scientologists
As you probably already know, there are many celebrities who have tapped into the Scientology vein. I've not seen this phenomenon in any other part of the U.S. nor as precedented in any other sub-cultures as the glittering sub-culture of the rich and famous. In short, it's a celebrity thing.
Tom Cruise is one of the most well-known celebrity Scientologists. But, it might be news to you that the Smiths are BFFs with Cruise. It's rare that such a influential Scientologist not convert his friends. Though, the Smiths claim they are not actually Scientologists.
They have donated to the cause. They even funded a school that uses a curriculum following closely with Scientology. That's a lot of Scientology to have in your life without actually being of the religion itself. So, the rumors fly...
7 Willow Had An Odd Relationship With Older Man
Both Willow and Jaden have always been in the spotlight, as many celebrity children are. Sometimes, it seems, what passes as permissible for celebrity children would never be okay for anyone else's kids.
For instance, Willow was only 13 years old when she posed on a bed with a half-naked Moises Arias. The worst part about it was that Arias was 20 years old at the time. That's a seven year age gap between the two of them.
Will claimed that the picture was an expression of art, but it rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. Not many people could understand why a young teenager would need to pose on a bed - a common item symbolizing sexuality - with a grown up, bare-skinned man. You can see how this could get twisted very, very easily.
6 They Are Both Very Self-Entitled
You might be completely blown away by the rumors circling that both Smith kids are fairly full of themselves. In fact, they are two of the most self-entitled children on the planet. Yeah, I didn't think that would knock your socks off.
My guess is that the Kardashian children will have them beat in a few years, but we'll save that for another post. For now, let's take a look at why these Smith kiddos are all about me, me, me.
For starters, it's probably hard for them not to be anything but self-entitled. They have sort of been reinforced to be exactly that way. Growing up extremely rich with powerful parents who let you have or do everything you want doesn't produce normal girl-next-door kind of kids. So, of course they're full of themselves!
5 They Have Self-Inflated Names
Will Smith is said to have one of the biggest egos in Hollywood. To be perfectly honest, if I were him, I might have a pretty darn big ego, too. He's basically successful at whatever he puts his hand to do.
An interesting fact about him (and Jada) is that he named his first-born son Trey. But, when he married Jada, it seems their egos meshed, thus collectively growing to epic proportions. Needless to say, there is a lot of ego floating around the Smith house.
Apparently they loved themselves so much that they had to give the kids their names. Willow is the female version of Will. Jaden is obviously a male variation of Jada. Not that naming your kids after yourself is bad, but there is a fine line between legacy and extreme ego.
Did I also mention that his first son is named Willard Carroll "Trey" Smith III?
4 Willow Has Her Head In The Clouds
If you thought Jaden was pretentious and over the top in his social media regurgitation, you should read his sister's posts. Apparently she is without humor, incredibly vapid, and likes to combine really big words in one run on sentence (kind of like this one) so that by the time you get to the end of the sentence you can't remember the beginning. Whew!
Check out one of her posts on Twitter, "ANYTHING that I EVER do is geared towards the evolution and vibrational elevation of this planet through the inspiration of individuals."
Here's the question that you might be asking yourself, how does kiddie R&B like Whip My Hair lead to the "vibrational elevation" of anything?
3 Willow Grew Up A Little Too Fast
Since I just referenced the Whip My Hair song, I'd better divulge into that part of Willow's life. Like her mother, Willow has always been a songstress. She was just a pre-teen when she released her first album featuring the two most popular songs, Whip My Hair and 21st Century Girl.
Through the production of music videos, recordings more singles/albums, and an array of collaboration, the girl worked her tail off.
Some say this early thrust into the music business or into show business altogether stole her childhood from her. This can be said of many childhood stars. For some reason, it seemed to really weigh this particular kiddo down. Maybe that's why she has her head in the clouds now.
2 Any Art Besides Theirs Is An Epic Fail
Dickens, Tolstoy, Hemingway...trash. Yep, according to the Smith kids, there are no novels that they like to read. So, what do they do? They write their own novels and read them over and over. So, rather than learning about life from the perspective of anyone else, they simply remain in their own little world and read their own thoughts.
So, who better to be thought-provoking leaders? On more than one social media post from both Smith kids, they boldly state that they are the leaders in all things pertaining to art, music, and fashion.
This kind of statement probably stems from the whole being far too self-entitled syndrome they possess. Granted, they are both very artistic and fashionable children. When you have money, that seems to work out better.
1 Jaden Has An Ultimate Goal Of Being Crazy
Maybe, to celebrities, it's just that the idea of being "normal" seems boring. It might be that they have been conditioned to have whatever they want when they want it, so they are always after what's bigger and better.
No matter what the reason is for most celebrities (and their children) to think like they do, the fact remains that most of them are eccentric. Either they are celebrities because they're eccentric or they're eccentric because they're celebrities. Probably both.
Which leads me to my very last fact about Jaden Smith. As you can see in the picture, he posed as a female model in a Louis Vuitton shoot. Why?
Well, because he says, “I have a goal to be just the most craziest person of all time.”
