46-year-old Monica Thompson thought she couldn't get pregnant after trying to conceive for over a decade with her first husband, Kevin Thompson. However, she all of sudden gave birth to Jayden Anthony Willie Edwin Ratliff the day after she went to the hospital for nausea and stomach pains.
Monica assumed that she was going through menopause and suffering some side effects from that. Her periods hadn't stopped completely but had become irregular...which is also a possible symptom of menopause.
However, it turned out to be just the opposite. Thompson found out she pregnant as it was revealed by a blood test. She was already 7 .5 months along and happened to go into labor the next day. Thompson had also thought she was leaking urine but that turned out to be amniotic fluid.
She had to undergo an emergency C-section and was quite understandably shocked by the turn of events. Her son Jayden was born prematurely and was in the NICU immediately after birth due to his low gestational age. Thompson wasn't able to hold her son until he was a week old but felt the connection to her son immediately.
She told Yahoo News, "I got to hold him for the first time a week later, and it was surreal. I thought 'Wow, I’m a mom'. It felt right. I felt complete.”
Thompson had tried to conceive with her late husband Kevin of 16 years but it never happened. He passed away in 2016. She assumed she was unable to have children and was content only having dogs. She met her current partner, Jason Ratliff, on a dating app in 2017 but they hadn't been trying for a baby.
During her unknown pregnancy, Thompson had been following a new diet and exercise routine and had lost about 20 pounds leading to even more confusion. Jayden is now a thriving 9-month-old. He is meeting all of his milestones and crawling everywhere. Thompson is overjoyed in her new life as a mom and couldn't imagine her life without her sweet baby.
Can you imagine the shock of not knowing you were pregnant? And then giving birth the next day? That is definitely the surprise of a lifetime!
