Dannette Giltz, a mother of two from Sturgis, South Dakota, arrived at her local hospital complaining of pain caused by kidney stones. Giltz had suffered from kidney stones before, so she felt confident in her self-diagnosis. Her initial symptoms were described as intense pain in both her side and back.
"I started getting pains, I figured it was kidney stones because I’ve went through them before," Giltz told KOTA-TV.
However, according to itv.com, when Giltz arrived at the hospital at Aug. 10th, doctors made the startling discovery that she wasn't suffering from kidney stones. Instead, she was 34 weeks pregnant, and currently in labor with what doctors initially thought were twins.
The surprised mother-to-be was rushed to another hospital with her husband of 12 years, Austin Giltz, by her side. The couple was in shock the entire time.
"You don’t ever see triplets being conceived naturally, let alone going 34 weeks without knowing," Giltz told KOTA-TV.
Imagine not feeling any movement from one baby, but from three! Giltz insists that she didn't feel a single thing during her entire surprise pregnancy.
Doctors ended up performing a C-section delivery, and Giltz and her husband- along with their two older children, son Ronnie and daughter Angelina- have welcomed babies Nikki Marie, Blaze Jackson and Gypsy Zada into the family.
Daughters Nikki and Gypsy weighed in at 4 pounds, 6 ounces and 4 pounds, 5 ounces respectively. Son Blaze meanwhile weighed a whopping 4 pounds, 15 ounces. Giltz said that before her surprise pregnancy, Ronnie had been asking for a brother and Angelina had been wishing for a sister. Those wishes have now been granted!
A family friend has set up a Facebook fundraising page to raise money for the unexpected expenses that the babies will need.
"I go to the doctor’s thinking I’ll have surgery for kidney stones and end up going into labour with a C-section that night," Giltz said. "It’s crazy."
