Parents, your kid's Happy Meals just got healthier thanks to McDonald's removing a couple of options that were previously available on the children’s menu.

The fast food chain is aiming to have all Happy Meals be 600 calories or less by June, as they embrace healthy eating. McDonald's Corporation announced it would no longer offer cheeseburgers as an option for the kid’s meals.

“We hope these actions will bring more choices to consumers and uniquely benefit millions of families, which are important steps as we build a better McDonald’s,” said Chief Executive Officer Steve Easterbrook in a statement released on Thursday.

Although the classic cheeseburger will still be on the menu and can be requested by customers, only a hamburger and box of chicken nuggets will be listed as entrée choices. It is all part of McDonald's plan to help child obesity by seeking healthier ingredients and options. Plus, the company is undergoing an image change as they are also working on being more environmentally friendly.

Other changes parents can expect to see on the Happy Meals menu include adding bottled water as an option and serving chocolate milk with less sugar. The fast food chain is also cutting the amount of fries that will be served in the kid’s meals. McDonald's is also exploring other healthier options to add to Happy Meals menu.

"It’s a journey. It’s a delicate balance. Customers are looking for options today they can feel good about eating. We want to serve food kids will want to eat. We do have this opportunity to influence customer choice by what’s presented," shared head of global nutrition, Julia Braun.

This is not the first time the fast food chain has changed items on the kid’s menus to offer healthier choices. The company added apple slices, removed soda as a drink choice, and added juices with less sugar a few years ago.

Kids may not be too happy with the changes coming to McDonald's Happy Meals, but their parents can now feel a little better about feeding their children fast food. The company did not share when the changes were taking place, just that they will all be rolled out by the summer.
